As Pride Month 2022 wraps up, we want to take a moment to highlight and reflect on of the events and activities Snyk hosted in celebration of Pride.

Snyk Impact introduces our PRIDE action campaign

At Snyk, we believe in the power of community to make a positive impact in the world. That’s why we’ve partnered with Impact Tree to provide informative and impactful actions we can all take to advance social and environmental causes.

Through our PRIDE action campaign, Snyk Impact pledged to donate $10,000 USD to OutRight Action International if Snykers completed a total of 1,000 actions by June 30th. We are so proud to announce that we exceeded our goal and will be making our full contribution!

Tel Aviv: Bianca Lewis shares her story

Bianca Lewis (Chief Revenue Officer, Opster) visited our Tel Aviv office to share her incredibly inspirational story about building her career in tech sales, as well as her journey of coming out as a transgender woman. Bianca is originally from South Africa, and later immigrated to Tel Aviv. She shared her experience with coming out  to her family, friends, and coworkers 15 years ago, and becoming a single mother after her marriage ended. After moving to Tel Aviv, she rebuilt her tech sales career , and continues to break down barriers for members of the LGBTQIA+ community through her professional and personal success. We are so grateful Bianca shared her story with us in order to raise awareness about the LGBTQIA+ transgender communitities. To learn more about Bianca and her story, take a look at this article on Calcalist or this podcast episode featuring LGBTech IL.

The LGBTQIA+ movement with Matthew Todd

Award-winning author, activist, and former Attitude magazine editor, Matthew Todd, shared the stories of some of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer people who changed the world, broke down barriers, and altered laws to equitable society.

Matthew Todd concluded is 8 year career as editor of Attitude, the UKs best-selling gay magazine, by convincing Prince William to make history by sitting for his final cover. He is also the author of Pride: The Story of the LGBTQ Equality Movement and the award winning LGBT mental health book Straight Jacket: Overcoming Society’s Legacy of Gay Shame, which Sir Elton John described as an “ essential read for every gay person on the planet”.

Pride Month is a great time to refresh on LGBTQIA+ history because  it’s difficult to avoid repeating the same mistakes without understanding our past — making Mattew’s informative and insightful session just what everyone needed.. Towards the end of the session, our Snykers were able to ask Matthew a lot of questions. And while some of them ended in a beautiful conclusion, others opened old wounds and revealed areas where further growth and healing is required.

The month of June is not always filled with rainbows and sunshine, but  it’s a beautiful feeling to know that you can discuss the good, the bad, and the ugly in a supportive environment.

Drag Bingo

Snykers in Boston, Denver, and various remote locations,   celebrated Pride by participating in our second annual Drag Bingo event with Confetti. Our wonderful host Miss Rusty Waters led us through multiple rounds of bingo. Each round’s winner was able to donate $100 USD to an eligible LGBTQIA+ organization, through the Deed platform. We all joined together with smiles and a bit of competitive energy, to donate a total of $800 USD! This fun experience was extremely rewarding and a great way to get to know our colleagues better while supporting the community.

Wrapping up

Pride month may be officially coming to a close but supporting and celebrating the LGBTQIA+ community is a year-round effort. At Snyk, we are committed to amplifying queer voices through events and initiatives hosted by our Queer@Snyk SRG (Snyk Resource Group) which gives all of our employees the opportunity to learn and grow. We also believe in the power of social impact and are proud that our employees can choose to donate to eligible LGBTQIA+ organizations through the Deed platform, where Snyk will match donations to eligible social impact charities at 1:1 up to $500 USD/year.
