Snyk expands in Asia-Pacific (APAC) with new datacenter in Sydney, Australia

Daniel BermanNovember 29, 2022

Snyk’s vision is to enable development and security teams across the world to accelerate their pace of innovation while also remaining secure and compliant. Needless to say, and especially in light of recent attacks in the region, this vision extends to Asia-Pacific (APAC) too.

Understanding growing concerns around data governance, we place the utmost importance on ensuring customers of all types and across geographical locations feel confident in using our developer security platform. To keep customer data safe, Snyk continuously invests in adhering to strict security measures, and is compliant with the EU General Data Protection Regulation, ISO 27001, ISO 27017, and SOC 2 Type II standards. Starting with the EU in June, we have also started to provision alternative deployment options to deliver on our customers’ stringent expectations of security, data residency and reliability.

Today we are excited to announce the general availability of a new datacenter in Sydney, Australia, supporting our growing expansion in Asia-Pacific by further helping local organizations secure their applications with Snyk while also complying with their local data residency needs!

Growing data protections in Asia-Pacific

The APAC region, and Australia and New Zealand (ANZ) specifically, is one of the fastest-growing markets for Snyk. In 2022, Snyk experienced over 150% YoY growth in ANZ alone, with customers like Australia Post, Atlassian, and Komatsu Australia using Snyk to secure their applications.

This is hardly surprising given the accelerated pace of digital transformation and growing adoption of cloud computing witnessed in the region. According to IDG researchers, cloud services amounted to 85% of the IT and business services market in Asia-Pacific in the first quarter of 2021, far exceeding other regions in the world. This coincides with a worldwide growth in enterprise spending directed at cloud-based technologies which is expected, according to Gartner, to reach two-thirds of overall enterprise spending on application software in 2025.

Accompanying this growth in cloud adoption are emerging data governance laws and regulations. Companies seeking to leverage the benefits of cloud services are increasingly concerned about how their data is processed, stored, and shared.

Whether because of legislative or regulatory demands, contractual agreements, or internal corporate policies, data residency has now become a key consideration for organizations when using new cloud-based technologies and services. In some of the data privacy laws in APAC, there are requirements that transfer of personal data has to maintain a minimum level of privacy protections. In the case of some regulated financial data, local storage of data may be required before any transfer of data.

Snyk developer security platform now hosted in Sydney, Australia!

Snyk’s developer security platform is now also hosted in Sydney, Australia, allowing companies with local data residency requirements to secure their applications with Snyk’s developer security platform.

“We are committed to support our customers in their efforts to mitigate security risk while also complying with regulatory compliance requirements across Asia-Pacific,” says Shaun McLagan, VP APJ at Snyk. “With this new Sydney data centre, our customers will be able to leverage Snyk to build software securely while also meeting data residency concerns.”

Adhering to leading international standards of data security and privacy, this new way of deploying Snyk provides customers with:

  • Fast time-to-value: SaaS ensures the easiest, quickest, and most cost-effective way to use the full Snyk developer security platform to secure your applications.
  • Superior uptime, performance, and resiliency: Snyk ships with out-of-the-box resiliency, scalability, and performance, with a 99.9% SLA serving thousands of organizations around the world.
  • In line with leading security standards: Snyk operates its cloud-based architecture with the highest security standards, with strict security controls, data encryption, and monitoring protocols.

The new support for data residency in Australia, as well as the EU, is available for new Snyk customers as part of the Snyk Enterprise plan.
