The Secure Developer Community

Today Snyk is happy to announce the launch of The Secure Developer, a community and educational resource for all things security.

We’ll bring together the greatest security experts to share their experiences on building security into their workflows, discussing tools that can help, and reviewing good and bad practices seen in the real world. The community will be a safe and inclusive space for developers to gain knowledge about application security whether they are new to the topic or have been working in the security space for years.

Every two weeks we’ll be hosting a live webinar where interesting speakers will share their perspectives on relevant security topics. The aim is to educate and enable software engineers to integrate security into their development practices.

Jim Manico will be kicking off the series by taking a look at OWASP’s top ten proactive controls, giving us an overview of the common security problems and how to address them.

All you need to do is head over to https://www.thesecuredeveloper.com/ to see all of our upcoming sessions as well as links to our Slack channel. Here you’ll be able to discuss software security with your fellow community members. While you’re there don’t forget to sign up to the mailing list and we’ll keep you up to date on all AppSec related news as well as notify you on upcoming live sessions.

Why do we need a developer focused security community?

Most of us would agree it’s important to build security into our development process, but how do we get it done? Understanding what works well, what tools to use and how to structure your team can feel like a daunting task. That’s why, today, Snyk launches The Secure Developer!

Where did The Secure Developer come from?

In early 2016 the team at Snyk founded the Secure Developer Podcast to arm developers and AppSec teams with better ways to upgrade their security posture. Three years on, and the podcast continues to share a wealth of information. Our aim is to grow this resource into a thriving ecosystem of knowledge.

Is this a Snyk Community for Snyk users?

In short, no!

The community will be powered by Snyk, our aim is to create a vendor-neutral space to share knowledge and best practices related to software security. Content will be focused on application security in general, rather than Snyk.

If you're a security enthusiast and you want to learn more about how to be a more secure developer then this series is for you.
