Historically we've had to stop propagation on clicks so that clicking on a chip won't move focus to the first chip once the event bubbles up to the list. This isn't necessary as of angular#12856 which changes how we detect clicks from inside a chip. These changes remove the call since it can prevent people's global click listeners from firing. Fixes angular#19759.

This PR is approved, but we have a process for merging PRs that requires us to validate it against all tests written by teams inside Google and ensure they are passing first. This slows down merging of some PRs but helps prevent regressions & breakages |

Thanks for your response @mmalerba this was approved more than 1y ago. Do you know by any chance if that process is happening any time soon for this PR? |

Honestly, its probably a low chance of this getting in any time soon. Generally when things fail to be merged for a long time it's because they break a lot of tests and will require significant effort from the team to fix the internal failures. Especially with the MDC-based version of chips on the horizon, that effort is best spent elsewhere. I'll at least schedule the tests to be re-run for this PR in case something has changed and getting it in is easier than I expect. |

Quick update: I re-ran the tests and there are ~60 test suites failing, so it won't be an easy one to get in |

Historically we've had to stop propagation on clicks so that clicking on a chip won't move focus to the first chip once the event bubbles up to the list. This isn't necessary as of #12856 which changes how we detect clicks from inside a chip. These changes remove the call since it can prevent people's global click listeners from firing. Fixes #19759.
