Snyk’s expanding partnership with Docker
With more than 15 million Docker developers and around 13 billion image downloads each month, the Docker ecosystem is massive and growing rapidly. At the same time, container security is becoming even more important with the growth of the Docker ecosystem. Together, Docker and Snyk aim to provide a streamlined workflow to help developers deliver more secure applications using containers.
Snyk’s ongoing partnership with Docker delivers container security to the Docker ecosystem, including vulnerability scanning on Docker Hub and within the Docker CLI. This empowers developers to create more secure container images from the start and improve the security of their software supply chain early in the development process.
The latest addition to Snyk’s partnership with Docker includes a new extension for Docker Desktop. The Docker Desktop Extension makes security even more convenient for developers by providing actionable remediation advice directly within their existing Docker Desktop workflows. This means developers can focus on building applications rather than digging into common vulnerability and exposures (CVE) reports.
By using this native integration, Docker Desktop users can gain greater visibility into the security of local container images and the images stored on Docker Hub. They’ll also save time by fixing container security issues during the development process before their images are pushed to the registry or reach production. During this lightning talk, which starts at 2:45 p.m. ET, Eric Smalling (Senior Developer Advocate at Snyk) will demonstrate how the new Snyk extension for Docker Desktop enables developers to more easily do the right thing when it comes to container security. For example, within the Docker Desktop UI, developers can scan for vulnerabilities as they code, and Snyk will guide them to the fastest path to better security by prioritizing fixes. By creating an environment that encourages stronger security without slowing down development, enterprises can deliver more secure applications faster than ever.
How to find the best security workflow for your team
The next Snyk session will be presented by Hadar Mutai, Product Manager of Snyk Container, and Fani Bahar, Senior Product Manager of Snyk Container. At 4 p.m. ET, they’ll share insights on how to find a container security workflow that’s practical for both development and security teams. As developers take on more security responsibilities, Mutai and Bahar hope to inspire them to view container security as a positive practice for delivering secure software rather than a painful necessity imposed by the security team.
Securely deploying containerized apps to Kubernetes
Eric Smalling will be discussing how to use Docker Desktop to deploy a containerized application using Kubernetes. This demonstration will include the basics of Kubernetes, an overview of how to containerize a legacy application, and instructions on how to run the app in Kubernetes. He’ll also discuss some of the security risks to keep in mind along the way and suggest some best practices for defending against potential attacks.
